Bridget Bell-HarrisThis November is proving to be an exciting month for arts activities in Geneva, with dance concerts, film festivals, and theatre productions almost every weekend.  This weekend, don't miss the Finger Lakes Dance! concert.  Over 500 audience members attended last year's Finger Lakes Dance! concert, and we hope that this year's concert will also draw a good crowd.  Finger Lakes Dance! will present the artistic work of professional musicians, choreographers, and dancers from the Finger Lakes Region.  Audience members of all ages will enjoy the concert's live music and varied dance styles: jazz, tap, contemporary dance, and step. This year, the concert will be held at the Cracker Factory in Geneva, NY. A unique performing space, the Cracker Factory brings audience members and performers together in an intimate setting.

Finger Lakes Dance! includes the work of four local composers, Gregg S. Christiansen, Marc Mellits, Sam Pellman, and Mark Olivieri, and seven choreographers, Michelle Ikle, Missy Pfohl Smith (BIODANCE), Donna Davenport, Anne Harris Wilcox (Present Tense Dance), Bill Evans, Heather Roffe, and Cadence Whittier. Musicians, Mark Olivieri, Miche Fambro, Adam Groom, and Jeff Thompson also perform live during the concert. Many of the choreographers will perform in the concert, and are joined by dancers Bridget Bell-Harris, Alycia Bright Holland, Donna Damelio-Brett, Laura Regna, Kimberly Kurtz-Ryan, Guy Thorne, Ellen Tomer, and Courtney World.  Select members of the Hip-notiQ's Step team will also present a new piece.

Present Tense Dance will perform Oil on Canvas, a quartet choreographed by Artistic Director Anne Harris Wilcoxin response to the Rochester Memorial Art Gallery's exhibit, "Paint Made Flesh" (see it on YouTube).  Artists in the exhibit used distortion, color, and brush stroke to convey the inner emotions and psychology of their subjects. Dancers Bridget Bell-Harris, Donna Damelio-Brett, Kimberly Kurtz-Ryan, and Ellen Tomer explore this physical/emotional relationship through movement dynamics, texture, and tableau. Original music by Miché Fambro adds an additional layer of tension and resolve. Wilcox also presents The Hurrying Dead Run Back, performed by Cadence Whittier.  Inspired by a poem written by Patricia Wilcox, the solo conveys the bittersweet experience of remembering those who have gone before us. It is beautiful and moving; alternating between joy and sorrow, and ultimately acceptance.
