Present Tense Dance and Friends presented “Make ‘Em Laugh/Make ‘Em Cry,” a concert of dance that maded eyes tear from laughter or poetic beauty. The concert included the offbeat humor and kinetic charge of “Ten Pin Alley,” and the elegiac grace of “Sic Gloria Transit Mundi.” Choreographer and Director, Anne Harris Wilcox, was joined by choreographers Kathy Diehl, Michelle Iklé, and Ellen Tomer to shape this emotionally charged concert. 20th Anniversary Concert!

November 4, 2011

Present Tense Dance 20th Anniversary ConcertIt's been a marvelous ride since Present Tense Dance premiered under Artistic Director Anne Harris Wilcox at Carpe Diem in Rochester, NY in 1991. Over these last 20 years, the company has connected with the community through performances and workshops, reaching a wide audience including senior citizen, children, and dancers from the beginning level to professional.

We've been thrilled to have broad support and brilliant collaborators. The company has been supported by grants from New York State, New York Foundation on the Arts, Rochester businesses, and individual contributors. Many of Harris Wilcox's works have sprung from her passion for multi-disciplinary, collaborative dance-theater. In those collaborations, she's been delighted to have worked with so many gifted composers including Alan Terriciano, Richard Scott, Ward Hartenstein, Michaela Eremiasova, Bernadette Speech, and Miché Fambro.

Of course, Present Tense Dance could never have existed without the talent, dedication, commitment, and sweat of the over 30 PTD dancers who've performed with us since 1991. The best part of looking back, is seeing that the repertory has a life of its own, staying alive through the artistry of the dancers and the animating spirit of music.

Present Tense celebrated these two wonderful decades with a concert at Aquinas Institue at 7:30 pm on Noverber 4. The celebration included works from all over the Present Tense Dance repetoire, with music by Richard Scott, Michaela Eremiasova, and others; poetry by Patricia Wilcox; and a cast of a dozen dancers.
